Our ravening, foam-flecked Home Secretary Jacqui Vissarionovich Smith* today announced that the state now sanctions police harassment. Apparently the way to make people behave like productive members of society is to treat them like criminals, even when they've doen nothing wrong. Of course, this is mainly aimed at 'young people' (aka those little shits that don't qualify to vote yet so why should we give a fuck what they think), so probably no-one will give a shite. Remember when ASBOs came out? They were for 'youths' too. Can you say 'function creep', little man?

In related news, Phil tells me that Lewes police are now issuing 'prophylactic' ASBOs to young 'offenders' who are known to them for any reason. His next door neighbour's daughter, who had a couple of run ins with the police aged 13 or so (but no convictions) and has since kept her nose clean (got into college, training to be a hairdresser yadda yadda) has just been issued, at the age of 17, with an ASBO banning her from associating with more than one person of her own age in the streets of Lewes.
